Everyday Magic by Navina Anand

Sometimes it is a hot cup of ‘filter’ coffee on a dewy morning…
Sometimes it is a platter  of hot pakoras and masala chai on a rainy afternoon…
Sometimes it is waking up with no alarm clock to jolt you into life…
Sometimes it is being served coffee in bed when you know you have overslept…

Sometimes it is that first sip of coke after a bite of spicy noodles…
Sometimes it is the ‘pretty pictures’ in a glossy magazine…
Sometimes it is the ping of your phone answering your expectations…
Sometimes it is the sight of a ‘made bed’ as you walk into your bedroom…

Sometimes it is dancing like no one is watching…
Sometimes it is the endorphins that rush through you after a tough workout…
Sometimes it is squealing with laughter even though it is inappropriate…
Sometimes it is bitching about someone with a confidante…

Sometimes it is those two lines on a pregnancy test …
Sometimes it is hugging and squeezing your child breathless…
Sometimes it is the pride of your child being acknowledged by others…
Sometimes it is the glow of knowing you raised a good kid…

Sometimes it is being on the most daring ride in a theme park…
Sometimes it is jumping off a cliff tied by a few ropes to a piece of fabric…
Sometimes it is rappelling down a waterfall.. and looking down at the view…
Sometimes it is driving down that loopy trail of a mountain on your bike…

Sometimes it is walking into a library and feeling that wonder of possibilities…
Sometimes it is the anticipation of opening the first page of the book you wanted for a while…
Sometimes it is weeping tears for a character you fell in love with…
Sometimes it is the magic of romance that you got swept up in…

Sometimes it is achieving that Yoga pose you have been striving to achieve…
Sometimes it is the understanding of something that had been beyond your ken…
Sometimes it is that tough recipe which you just nailed this time…
Sometimes it is that hard-earned running medal after months of training…

Sometimes it is a piece of writing you are proud of…
Sometimes it is the gift of a pencil you receive from a child you have taught through the year…
Sometimes it is the applause of being appreciated in public…
Sometimes it is the cheap thrill of ‘likes’ and ‘comments’…

Sometimes it is the view from atop a mountain that looked insurmountable…
Sometimes it is just being mesmerized by water… roaring… gurgling… flowing…
Sometimes it is the rush of wind against your hair as your ride, glide, slide…
Sometimes it is the warmth of sunshine as you emerge from a dreary winter…

Sometimes it is music… which makes you want to get up and dance…
Sometimes it is music… which transports you to a different vibe…
Sometimes it is music… which chokes you up and streams tears from your eyes…
Sometimes it is music.. which leaves you entranced, speechless, even motionless…

Sometimes it is a friend who has changed your view…
Sometimes it is a friend who understood your grief…
Sometimes it is a friend who read your mind…
Sometimes it is a friend who completes your sentences…

Sometimes it is people who always have your back…
Sometimes it is people who light up your day…
Sometimes it is people with whom you can let down your hair…
Sometimes it is people who love you unconditionally…

Sometimes it is knowing you have enough…
Sometimes it is knowing you care enough…
Sometimes it is knowing you are loved enough…
Sometimes it is knowing that you ARE enough.

Everyday magic…
The kind that hits us on a regular basis…
The kind that we forget to pause sometimes and let sink in…
The kind that we forget all too soon in our chase of the ‘next high’…
The kind that makes it all worthwhile.

  1. Brilliant. It is not only the small things like the romantics call out. It is the small things and the big things and every thing in between…
